A Doberman-Themed Pop-Up Cake Card: From CAD Design to Handmade Details
When closed, this card folds into a neat, compact square. Open it up, and a three-dimensional cake pops out from the center—a delightful surprise that makes the card as memorable to give as it is to receive. Designed especially for a Doberman's birthday celebration, every layer and decoration was brought to life by hand.
1. CAD Design & Blueprint Printing
I began by mapping out the card’s structural geometry and folding mechanisms in CAD software to ensure every fold aligns seamlessly. Once the blueprint was ready, I printed the template onto 250 gsm cardstock—sturdy enough for crisp scoring and assembly, while helping the finished pop-up cake hold its shape over time.
2. Precision Trimming & Pop-Up Assembly
Using a precision craft blade, I carefully trimmed each structural piece along the fold lines. Assembling the pop-up mechanism requires patience and accuracy: gluing each tab and tier at the exact angle so the three-dimensional cake rises smoothly without catching.
3. Handcrafted Coloring & Sweet Details
Once the foundation was assembled, I brought the cake to life with color and decorative accents. I hand-drew miniature cookies and sprinkles using markers to give the tiers a warm, playful, and finished look.
4. The Custom Doberman Cake Topper
To crown the creation, I crafted a custom Doberman illustration topper that perches right on top of the cake. Capturing the breed's iconic silhouette with a celebratory birthday vibe, it brings the entire theme together and makes this card a truly personal keepsake.
