The Design Process Behind Our Custom Pet Portrait Pendants
A Custom Schnauzer Pendant: From Photo to Finished Jewelry
Every custom pet pendant starts with a photo. The challenge is turning that photo into a design that still looks like the individual pet when it becomes a small piece of jewelry.
Here is how we approached one recent Schnauzer commission.
Step 1: Selecting the Photo
The customer provided several photos of their Schnauzer.
We compared the images for pose, facial features, and overall clarity before choosing the photo that gave us the strongest starting point for the design.
A good reference photo doesn't need to be perfect. What matters most is that the pet's key features are clearly visible.
Step 2: Choosing the Composition
Once the reference photo was selected, we considered different compositions for the pendant.
For this Schnauzer, we chose a full-body pose rather than a close-up portrait. The upright posture gave the pendant a more distinctive silhouette while preserving the character of the original photo.
Step 3: Focusing on the Details
Not every detail from a photograph needs to appear on a small pendant.
Our designer focused on the features that made this Schnauzer recognizable:
- The long eyelashes
- The upright ears
- The textured, wavy coat
- The overall shape and posture
These details were simplified where necessary so they would remain clear in the final jewelry design.
Step 4: Free Design Preview
Before production begins, we provide a Free Design Preview.
The customer can review the proposed design and request changes if needed. Production only starts after the design has been approved.
This gives customers a chance to see how their pet will be represented as a pendant before the piece is made.
Step 5: From Design to Jewelry
After the design was approved, we moved forward with the production process.
The final order included one pendant and two matching keychains, each based on the same Schnauzer portrait.
The three pieces were made from the approved design and finished individually.
Why the Design Stage Matters
A pet photograph contains far more information than can fit into a small piece of jewelry.
The job is not to reproduce every detail. It is to identify the features that make the pet recognizable and translate them into a clean, wearable design.
